Yayasan Kesejahteraan Anak Indonesia

Yayasan Kesejateraan Anak Indonesia - YKAI - (The Indonesian Child Welfare) is a national non profit organization which has more than 10 branches in major provinces of Indonesia. It is established in 1979 and they have been engaged in several studies and other activities on children in general and working children since 1983. YKAI is more specialized themselves in dealing the street children. YKAI is also one of institution in Indonesia which provides such a rich information on children issue in their library.

YKAI has participated IPEC programme since 1993 as one of the IPEC'S partners in Indonesia. In 1993 and 1996, YKAI in collaboration with IPEC and Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, YKAI organized National Conference I and II on Child Labour and disseminated the information through out Indonesia by using the Internet. About 30 NGOs has also been trained how to use the internet to access the information of child labour. YKAI has also produced hundred series of photos on Working Children in Indonesia under biennium 1998/1999. Pictures were taken in Java Island (Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta and East Java) and Central Sulawesi. Under biennium 2000/2001, YKAI spreads the child labour issues to broader audience through media campaign activities which focusing on ILO Convention No. 182/Law No. 1/2000 Concerning The Worst Forms of Child Labour. As part of the media campaign activities, one of the Indonesian celebrities, Ms. Shahnaz Haque, assigned as the Child Labour Ambassador, Child Labour Marching conducted on the National Children and Information Kit on the Worst Forms of Child Labour, Posters and Panels were produced. Other media campaign activities which will be conducted are:

n establishment of child labour free zone
n round table and consultative discussion on selected member of districts to prepare time bound programme
n public hearing with parliament
n journalist forum
n training on the trade unions
