Lembaga Pengkajian Sosial "HUMANA" is a non profit, independent
social organization focusing on research and development of poor
communities in urban areas in Yogyakarta. The Foundation has been
actively involved in giving assistance to street children in Yogyakarta
since 1984. The aim of the organization is to identify problems
of street children and rural working children and improve their
condition of live through education and open house.
Yayasan Lembaga Pengkajian Sosial HUMANA joint the IPEC programme
in 1992 by providing open house for working street children in Yogyakarta.
During the collaboration, they reached many children with their
services, but it's hard to meet the target due to the high mobilization
of the children; 50 children reintegrated in the community; 10 children
stopped working in the street and actively participated in the training;
50 children provided with vocational training and self-reliant;
50 children were involved in recreational activities such as games,
music instruments, writing and drawing; 50 children provided with
identity card, counseling and legal services and 50 children provided
with health services. To disseminate information on the life of
street children, Yayasan Humana publishes an monthly magazine called
GIRLI. The foundation is considered successful in reaching the objective
of the IPEC collaboration.
The collaboration ended in 1995 because the foundation merely focus
on street children and at that time there were so many NGOs or institutions
dealt with the issue, therefore IPEC considered it as not a priority.
